Printing from Bulk Mailer 5

Note: The screen shots below are from an old version of BM5.

1. Load the Printer Driver: Load the appropriate Satori printer driver onto your computer, using the Satori Bulk Mailer  CD.

Satori has developed their own printer drivers for use with their software product. Therefore, Satori recommends that you load and use the printer drivers available to you on the Satori Bulk Mailer CD. If not, the Bulk Mailer software may not function properly with the printer.

After loading the printer driver, connect the printer, then verify that the correct port has been assigned within the printer driver. If you are planning to connect the printer via USB, please read the "USB Port Assignment Routine" below, before you continue.

2. Printer Settings:
Valid for all older "legacy" Rena printer models except for the Envelope Imager III. If using a newer Rena Systems printer model, please skip to step #4.
Except for correctly setting and "local locking" the paper size; all printer settings should be set to factory defaults. A menu reset (default reset) can be performed by powering the printer on while holding down the PROG key. The printer will display "Default Reset" or "Non-Mechanical Reset". Release the PROG key once this message appears in the printer's display.

3. Set and Local Lock the Paper Size (Paper Length):
Valid for all older "legacy" Rena printer models except for the Envelope Imager III. If using a newer Rena Systems printer model, please skip to step #4.
In order for RENA printer to work correctly, the Paper Size (Paper Length) must be properly set and "local locked".  If not, along with other problems, the following Error messages may appear on the printer's display when you send it data from Bulk Mailer 5.

“FONT LOADING ERROR: DL DISABLED”
“Warning: Non-Existent Font Selected!”

If you are experiencing the error messages, shown above, when printing from Bulk Mailer 5 to a RENA printer, please be sure to set and "local lock" the paper size, within the RENA printer.
Procedure for Setting and Local Locking the Paper Size (Paper Length):
a. Place a mail piece into the properly adjusted hopper.
b. If the printer is on-line, take the printer off-line by pressing the START key.
c. Press and hold the Auto PL key (right most key) on the printer's control panel.
d.  When the "(L)" is displayed, release the key.
e. The printer will then feed, measure and "local lock" the paper size (length).
f. Please be sure to verify that the length it measured is within + or - 5mm of the true length of the mail piece. If not, this problem must be corrected before continuing.

Note: If using a DA606 or DA607, these models do not have an Auto PL feature. The paper size (paper length) must be manually set using the printer's menu feature "Paper Size".

Warning! Do NOT lock all settings. It is a common mistake for operators to set the Menu Feature "Setting Locked" to Yes, which locks all printer settings. When working with a RENA driver the printer menu feature "Setting Locked" must be set to "No", otherwise the printer will not work correctly.

4. Open Bulk Mailer 5 and select (open) the mailing list of your choice.

5. Use the Bulk Mailer 5 "Wizards" to setup your job.
This newer version of Bulk Mailer is driven by "Wizards", which will guide you through the envelope design and layout process.

USB Port Assignment Routine:

Note: If you already loaded the appropriate printer driver, connected the printer, and have attempted to send data to the printer; but you are not getting any response from the printer (no data getting to printer), then you will need to delete all print jobs (documents) in the printer queue, reboot your computer, power the printer off/on, and start from step "D" below.

  1. Don't connect the printer until you have the printer driver installed.
  2. When initially installing the printer driver, we suggest leaving the port selection at default (usually LPT1:), even if you don't have an LPT port on your computer.
  3. After the printer driver is installed; connect the printer to the computer, via USB, and turn the printer on.
If the printer has never been connected to the computer before; you will get the windows "found new hardware", "installing new hardware" messages at this time.
After Windows finishes installing new hardware, it should give the message that "The hardware has been installed successfully...".
  4. Open the printer driver properties, from the "printers & faxes" folder.
  5. Click on the Ports tab and locate the fist USB selection (usually they are numbers USB01, USB02, etc...). Then click on Apply.
  6. While watching the printer status, from the "printers & faxes" folder (folder view must be set to details); power the printer off, wait 10 seconds, and power the printer on.
The printer status should toggle from offline to ready when you power the printer on.
The status should toggle from ready to offline when you power the printer off.

You may need to repeat this step (power off/on) more than once, for the system to recognize the printer and to see the status change.
  7. If the printer status does NOT change, when you power the printer off and on; click on the Ports tab, then locate and select the next USB port selection in the list (USB02, USB03, USB04, etc...).
    Then click on Apply.

    Go to Step "F".
  8. If the printer status changes when you power the printer off/on then you are Finished.
Your printer driver has been properly configured for the USB port you are connected to.
You are ready to begin printing.

Note: The above routine is only valid for USB connections. We do NOT recommend using USB to Parallel converters.
