How to install Rena printer drivers for the DA590/600/606/607/608/610/615/620, Envelope Imager I/II and XPS-80/90 onto your computer.

Rena printer drivers are now distributed on the FlexMail 2 Trial CD (FM2-00-CDR). When you place this CD in your drive, the FlexSystems Install Wizard will open and walk you through the installation process. You will need the "Product Number" off the FlexMail CD jacket in order to install the printer drivers. If you downloaded the drivers from our web site and do not have a product number. Than you will need to purchase a FlexMail 2 Trial CD (FM2-00-CDR) to obtain a product number.
Note: The FlexMail Trial CD also includes a driver for the Envelope Imager III, which was developed by FlexSystems for use with FlexMail 2. Please be sure this is the driver used when printing from FlexMail 2 to an Envelope Imager III.

How to install Rena Envelope Imager III printer drivers onto your W95/98 computer.

Note: The FlexMail Trial CD, mentioned above, also includes a driver for the Envelope Imager III. This driver was developed by FlexSystems for use with FlexMail 2. In some cases this driver can also be used with other software programs. It's a good idea to have both manufacturers versions of the Envelope Imager III driver available to you.

1. Download the Envelope Imager III printer drivers from our web site. 
2. Run the file (RenaEi3Drv.exe) to extract the files it to your hard drive. 
   C:\Rena Ei3 Drivers  
   Three separate sub-directories will be created for specific operating systems.
3. Copy the files in the "W95_98_ME..." sub-directory to a floppy disk (A:).
4. Click on the Windows "Start" button; Click on Settings; Click on Printers
5. Double Click on Add Printer. The Add Printer Wizard will open. Click on Next.
6. Select your choice of Local printer or Network Printer. Click on Next.
7. Click on Have Disk. Make sure the A: drive is selected. 
   Note: If you choose; instead of installing the drivers from a floppy disk, you may install the drivers directly from the location you extracted them to on your hard drive. In this case, you must choose the appropriate driver location (C:\Rena Ei3 Drivers) and sub-directory by selecting Browse.
   
   
8. Click on OK.
9. Under Printers: Click on the Envelope Imager III printer choice.  
   Note: There will be two printer choices displayed:
   The "Envelope Imager III" and the "Envelope Imager III memory overlay". 
   
   The "memory overlay" driver can also be loaded and used to download and store text or graphic images within printer memory. These images will than be printed on (added to) every envelope you print using the standard "Envelope Imager III" driver. This is a useful tool for printing indicia's or return address data (static/constant data) on each envelope, along with the variable data. Once you power the printer off, these downloaded items are lost.
   
10. Click on Next.
11. Choose the communications port (LPT:?) you are connecting the printer to. Click on Next.
    Note: Do not select the USB port. Even though a USB port is present on the back of the Envelope Imager III, it is not supported at this time.
12. Select your choice: Use as default printer? "yes" or "no". Click on Next.
13. When asked if you would you like to print a test page? Select "no". Click on Finish.
14. Remove the disk and tag it as "W95_98_ME, Envelope Imager III drivers" for future reference.

When using a Rena printer driver, be sure the following are set correctly:

1. Rena Printer Settings (Except Envelope Imager III).
   1. Default Reset Printer. Hold down the PROG button while powering on the printer. By doing this you are making sure that you are giving the software and Rena driver control of the printer.
   2. On Rena DA608/610/612/613/615 models be sure to set and "Local Lock" the paper size, within the printer. Make sure the printer is measuring your mail piece accurately (Tolerance = +- 4 mm).

NOTE: The Envelope Imager I/II (DA612/613) maximum print height is 1.5 inches. The DA615's maximum print height is 2 inches. To avoid exceeding these limits, when using the DA612/613/615 printers be sure the Top Margin setting in your Windows program and in the printer is set to zero. Also be sure your address information is positioned at the very top of the page.

Windows NT/2000/XP Users of the DA606/607:
Drivers for these newer operating systems are currently available, however, since these models were developed many years before these operating systems were available, performance will be affected by the use of these newer operating systems. 
For Example: When printing True Type fonts from these newer operating systems to a DA606/607 model, you will notice that it takes multiple head movements to print each line. This in turn will greatly reduce your throughput. 
This symptom is due to the way data is sent from these newer operating systems to these older "line printers". Unlike Windows 95/98, where each line is preceded with a single positioning command; in Windows NT/2000/XP each word, or sometimes each character, in the line is preceded by a separate positioning command. These separate positioning commands cause the printer to make multiple head (cartridge) movements. 
If possible, choosing only "internal printer fonts" will help reduce this problem. An internal printer font is a font, which is identical in name and point size to a font available within the printer. Example: Cour12. If possible, we recommend using the DA606/607 printer models from a Windows 95/98 platform. 

DA590/600 Users:
If you choose to send a True Type font to a Rena DA590 or DA600 printer, the print speeds will decrease significantly. This is because a True Type font is sent to these printers as a graphic image. In order to obtain the optimum print speeds on these printer, when using a Rena Driver, be sure to choose an "internal printer font" via the software. An internal printer font is a font, which is identical in name and point size to a font available within the printer. Example: Cour12. Choosing an internal printer font will allow the software to send the appropriate escape sequence to select the font, and the address information will be sent as text information and not graphic information.

Rena DA606/607/608/610/615, Envelope Imager I/II (DA612/613) Users:
Rena W95/98 printer drivers for the DA606/607/608/610/612/613/615 have the ability to select how to print True Type Fonts. In the Printer’s Properties settings, you will find a tab labeled "Fonts". In the Fonts dialog box, you will see the choice to "Print True Type fonts as graphics", or "Download True Type fonts as bitmap soft fonts". Choosing to download true type fonts as bitmap soft fonts will give you the best print speed. If you should experience formatting problems, when using this setting, you may have better luck if you choose "Print true type fonts as graphics" instead. Of coarse doing so will also cause a reduction in print speed.

DA606/607 font downloading limitation: If you get a "Memory Error" displayed on your DA606/607, when choosing to download fonts from your Windows program, you will need to add additional memory to your DA606/607. The "standard" DA606/607 has only enough memory to handle most 11 or 12 point fonts. DA606 users: It is possible that you will need to update the printer’s Firmware (EPROM's), in order to make your printer work correctly when downloading true type fonts. Please contact your local Rena Dealer to purchase and have additional memory and updated EPROM's installed in your DA606. Please be aware, that the "automatic true type font downloading feature", described above, may not work with a 1994 Version DA606. Also, you can not add memory or update EPROM's in a 1994 Version DA606.
