Frequently Asked
Questions
- Printing From Microsoft AccessJust a note, before you get
started. To our knowledge, it is not possible to have
MS-Access send the appropriate Delivery Point Barcode (DPBC) to our
printers. Therefore, we suggest you export your address list, from
MS-Access, as a D-Base file. This exported D-Base file can then be
imported into a more versatile "mailing program", where it
can be standardized (according to USPS regulations) and printed,
along with a certified USPS barcode generated by the "mailing
program", to our Rena printers. A few suggested mailing
programs are:
FlexMail and Satori Bulk Mailer.
With the Rena DA Series of Inkjet
Printers:
Load the appropriate Rena Printer
Driver before opening MS-Access.
IMPORTANT: In
all Rena inkjet printer models, be sure the menu item "Setting
Locked:" is set to "no".
In the DA608/610/612/613/615 & Envelope Imager 1 printer models,
please be sure to properly set and "Local Lock" the Paper
Size to the length of the mail-piece you will be printing on. If
this is not done properly, you will experience feeding and address
positioning problems. Local Locking a menu item keeps the software
(MS-Access) from making changes to the item. The Paper Size can be
automatically set and locked by pressing and holding the right-most
key (Auto Paper Length Key) on the printer's control panel until an
(L) is displayed. When this key is released, a mail piece will be
fed, it's length measured and locked. Be sure the printer's
measurement is the actual length of the mail piece, + or - 4mm.
-
Open the Database
that you will be printing.
-
Select the Reports
Tab.
-
Click on the New
button.
-
Highlight (click on
it once) the "Label Wizard" option, select the
appropriate database from the pull-down menu, and click OK.

Feed" and Orientation to "Portrait".
-
Enter 1 in the box
for "Number Across:".
-
Enter your desired
label height and width, in the appropriate boxes of the upper
left label, displayed on this screen.
IMPORTANT: To give yourself the most flexibility in
positioning the addresses where you want them to be printed on
the mail piece, try to set the label height and width to the
minimum size needed for the address information you are going to
be printing. For example, if the largest address in the list is
6 lines by 30 characters wide, you could set your label
dimensions to 1 inch high by 3 inches wide.
-
Set all of the
other boxes (margins & dimensions of the upper right label)
to zero.
-
Enter a name, for
your label design, in the "Label Name:" box (e.g. Rena
DA-606 Label).
-
Now click OK.
-
A warning window,
concerning margins being set outside the printable area, will
pop up. Click No.
-

"Show custom label sizes" box is checked.
-
Click on your new
label definition to highlight it, then click Next >.
-
Select the Font and
point size of your choice.
-
Set Font weight to
Normal.
-
Leave the color as
black then click Next >.
-
Design your label
by double-clicking on the field you want to use; make sure that
they are on the line you want them to print on. Click Next >.
-
If you want, select
a field by which you want to sort. Click Next >.
-
Fill in a name for
the report (e.g. Test Labels) and select the "See the
labels as they will look printed" option. Click Finish.
-
A window will open
that has a preview of the labels. It will look like a sheet of
paper with several addresses on it. Right-click anywhere on the
paper and select Page Setup.
-
Click on the
"Page" tab, select "Use Specific Printer"
and click the "Printer" button.
-
Select the
appropriate Rena Printer Driver for the Printer you are using
then click OK.
-
On the Page tab
again, select the appropriate envelope size (e.g. Com-10
(Business)).
-
Click on the
"Margin" tab and set the margins appropriately, so
that only one address is visible, on the page, and it is
positioned where you would like it printed. Remember, margin
settings are relative to the printer you are using. For example,
the DA590 has a 6.5 inch wide print area, if you set the left
margin to 4, you are only allowing for a 2.5 inch wide address
to be printed and, in normal orientation, the address will be
printed very close to the back wall of the printer.
IMPORTANT: The margin settings must be set so that only
one address is printed per page. For example, if you are using a
DA608 printer and have chosen a C10 envelope (4 1/8" x 9
1/2") and your label dimensions are set to 1" x
3", you could set your margins to: Top = 2", Bottom =
1", Left = 4" and Right = 0".
As a general rule, make sure the Left, Top and Bottom margin
settings are set large enough so that only one address is
displayed on the page in view, but be careful not to set them
too large or parts of the addresses may be cut off (not
printed). Also, do not position the addresses too far to
the right. If the left margin is set too large, it will cause
the program to do something very strange. It will send each
address to the printer, twice. Each address will be
printed on separate pages, but in different print positions.
If you are using a DA612/613 (Envelope Imager I/II) remember
that these printers are limited to printing only the first 1.5
inches of the page, so set your margins accordingly. Set the top
margin to zero. Set the bottom margin large enough so that only
one address is positioned at the very top of the page.
If you are using a DA615, remember that it is limited to
printing the first 2 inches of the page.

Now check the
"Print Data Only" box then click OK.
