Printer Driver Information Center

Using a Rena printer driver will give you the ability to print from most Windows programs, but if you want to take advantage of all the unique features of your Rena printer (printing: true type fonts, graphics, postal indicia, return address, etc.), we recommend that you use one of the following envelope design programs, offered by Rena Systems Inc.

JetMate 3

JetMate3 is an envelope design program, but instead of using the Rena printer drivers, it uses the HP DeskJet 500 & HP LaserJet III drivers to control our printers.
JetMate3
is recommended for use with the following Rena printers:
DA590/606/607/608/610/615, Envelope Imager I/II (DA612/613).
The JetMate3 CD includes a special version of the JetMate3 program for use with the Envelope Imager III. This version of "JetMate3 for the Envelope Imager III" uses the Envelope Imager III printer drivers, provided on the JetMate3 CD, to control the printer.

Please use part number: "SFT JETMATE 3" to order the JetMate3 program from your local Rena dealer.

FlexMail2

FlexMail2 is a "high end" envelope design program, that we have found to be very flexible and user-friendly. FlexMail2 is written by the same company (FlexSystems) that develops our printer drivers. FlexMail2 was written in close cooperation with Rena, so it works seamlessly with many of our printers.
FlexMail2 will work with most Rena printer models and it is highly recommended when using the following Rena printer models: DA620 (Digital Imaging System), XPS-80/90 (DA630M/A), PS1000/2000, XPS1000/2000, XPS-3000.

Note: FlexMail2 must be used with the DA620 (Digital Imaging System)
 and the XPS-90 (DA630A).

Please use part number: "FM2-00-CDR" to order a trial version of the FlexMail2 program from your local Rena dealer, or purchase the CD now from our secure online shopping system.
This CD also includes our Rena printer drivers.

Note to Windows NT/2000/XP Users of the DA606/607:
Drivers for these newer operating systems are available, however, since these models were developed many years before these operating systems were available, performance will be affected by the use of these newer operating systems.
For Example: When printing True Type fonts from these newer operating systems to a DA606/607 model, you will notice that it takes multiple head movements to print each line. This in turn will greatly reduce your throughput.
This symptom is due to the way data is sent from these newer operating systems to these older "line printers". Unlike Windows 95/98, where each line is preceded with a single positioning command; in Windows NT/2000/XP each word, or sometimes each character, in the line is preceded by a separate positioning command. These separate positioning commands cause the printer to make multiple head (cartridge) movements.
If possible, choosing only "internal printer fonts" will help reduce this problem. An internal printer font is a font, which is identical in name and point size to a font available within the printer. Example: Cour12. If possible, we recommend using the DA606/607 printer models from a Windows 95/98 platform.

NOTE: We do not have Windows printer drivers for Rena dot matrix printer models (DA3xx). For suggestions on how to print to a DA3xx printer model from Windows, click on the link below.

NOTE: For RENA DA595, color inkjet printer, please use the HP DeskJet 890C drivers. Click here to download the dj890c driver from HP's web site.

* The PS1000 controller is used in some XPS-1000's. The PS2000 controller is used in some XPS-1000's all XPS-2000 and XPS-3000 systems. If using a XPS-1000/2000/3000, please be sure to choose the correct printer driver (PS1000 or PS2000 driver), with the corresponding number of print units, for your system.

Make sure the driver is configured as follows:

  • In the Graphics tab, choose raster graphics.
  • You may also want to change the resolution from 600dpi to 300dpi, to reduce the amount of information that needs to be sent to the printer, which may improve print speeds.
  • In the Font tab, choose "Download TrueType fonts as bitmap soft fonts".
  • All other driver settings should be left at their default settings.

Click here for list of known incompatibilities with Rena printer "internal fonts" when using the HP LaserJet 5si driver.

Windows 3.1x Users

We recommend using the appropriate Rena driver.

Alternative Drivers:

Generic Text Only: The Generic Text Only driver can be found on your original Windows 3.1 Disks. If your Windows program will not work with the Generic Text Only driver, you may want to try the HP DeskJet 500 Driver.

HP DeskJet 500: This Windows 3.1x HP DeskJet 500 driver can be found on your original Windows 3.1x disks, or you can go to HP's FTP site and download the most recent Windows 3.1x version of the HP DeskJet 500 driver.

Macintosh Users

MAC Printer Drivers
At this time there are no Macintosh printer drivers available for any of our Rena Models, except for the DA595 color printer, which may be able to use the HP 890C driver.

As a possible alternative, you may want to try the "HP DeskJet 500 Driver", "LaserJet 5si Driver", or "Generic Text Only Driver" for MAC.

For the Rena DA-595 color printer, go to the www.HP.com and download the Mac OS driver for the 890C printer.  This may aid in compatibility issues.

NOTE: There has been talk about the newer PowerMac and I MAC PCs being able to run Windows 95/98 software and use Windows 95/98 printer drivers. If this is true, you may want to consider using a Windows 95/98 software package and loading the appropriate Windows 95 Rena Printer Driver. We have not been able to verify that this type of approach will or will not work. If you have any information regarding this matter, we would appreciate hearing from you. Please e-mail details regarding this matter to support@renausa.com.

Please click here for more details on how we suggest you setup and use Rena printers with your MAC.

DA3xx Older Rena Printers (Dot Matrix Printers)

To use Rena Models DA-300/305/306/307/313 with Windows, you must use a "text-only" driver.
There are no "Rena drivers" for these printer models. These models  were produced when DOS was the popular operating system.

Windows 3.1 add the "text only" printer driver using your original Windows 3.1x disks.

Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP add the "text only" printer driver using your original Windows CD.
Note: You may experience problems when using the "text-only" driver under Windows XP. At this time, we do not know of a resolution to this problem.

 Windows 95 users Only!

  • Download the file tty.drv from this site by clicking on hyperlink text.
  • Copy the downloaded tty.drv file into the C:\Windows\System folder.
  • The new tty.drv file will over-write the existing file.

RENASet Program

RENASet is a DOS program that allows you to setup your Rena DA-590, DA-606, and DA-610 from the PC. It allows you to store up to 99 different presets (jobs) and it makes downloading fonts and graphics a snap! It is also a good tool for testing the printer.

NOTE: The setup feature in the RENASet program is only useful when using a DOS based program, or a Windows based program in conjunction with the Generic Text Only printer driver, or Standard Text Only printer driver. It is not useful when using a Windows program in conjunction with a Rena printer driver, HP DeskJet 500 driver, or HP LaserJet 5si driver, since the Windows program will "erase" the internal printer settings you have selected and set using the RENASet program.

The file will automatically unzip to your A:\ drive, then from the A:\ Prompt type:

A:\install c:

To run RENASet in Windows, create a DOS-Window and set the Target as:

C:\renaset\renaset.exe
